REAL REVIEWS
CPILS is a long-established language school in Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines. Founded in 2001, it offers General ESL, ESL Plus, Premier Sparta, IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, PMC speaking courses, Business English, and more. With classrooms, dormitories, a cafeteria, study spaces, and leisure facilities all on one large campus, it's ideal for students who want a steady daily English study routine along with everyday convenience.
CPILS is in Cebu City, making it a city-based language school. Compared with resort-style schools on Mactan Island, CPILS is closer to city amenities, with easier access to malls, restaurants, supermarkets, and other areas. If you want to focus on English during your stay without being far from downtown Cebu, CPILS is one of the schools worth comparing first.
Yes. CPILS's general English courses accept students of different levels, and after you arrive you'll be given materials and content suited to your level. One-on-one lessons are especially helpful for beginners, because teachers can adjust to your pace instead of following a fixed group schedule, and build up your speaking, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and listening step by step.
The number of daily lessons at CPILS varies by course. General ESL mainly combines one-on-one, small-group, and group classes, while General ESL Plus raises the share of one-on-one lessons. Intensive courses such as Premier Sparta, IELTS, and TOEIC may also add evening study, self-study, or mock tests. When choosing a course, compare not just the total number of lessons but also the number of one-on-one lessons, the share of group classes, and evening schedules.
Yes. One-on-one English is one of CPILS's main teaching formats. Each course includes a different number of one-on-one lessons, and teachers can tailor the content to your individual weak points, such as speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary, reading or grammar. For students who want to boost their English output in a short time, or who feel shy speaking up in group classes, one-on-one lessons offer much more room to practice.
Both are general English courses; the main difference is the proportion of one-on-one lessons. General ESL suits students who want a balanced mix of one-on-one, small-group and group classes, while General ESL Plus adds more one-on-one time—better for students who want teachers to focus more on their individual weak points, or short-term students who want more speaking and practice time.
Premier Sparta is CPILS's high-intensity English course. On top of daytime classes, it usually includes evening study, self-study or assigned learning activities, keeping a full English study rhythm throughout your stay. Ideal for students with limited time who want to improve quickly, or who need a clear study management system.
CPILS offers both general English and higher-intensity Sparta-style courses, so not every student follows the same Sparta system. General ESL, General ESL Plus, Premier Sparta, IELTS, and other courses may differ in daily study load, evening activities, self-study requirements, and rules on going out. If freedom matters to you, check the latest management rules for your chosen course.
Yes. General ESL already includes one-on-one and group interaction, giving you more chances to actually speak English every day. If you already have a decent foundation but struggle to express yourself naturally, get nervous presenting or hesitate to speak in public, consider courses like PMC that focus on Speaking, Presentation, Discussion and Public Speaking.
Yes. Besides one-on-one and group classes with Filipino teachers, some CPILS courses also include teachers from English-speaking countries. Alongside plenty of one-on-one practice, this exposes students to different accents, speaking speeds, and communication styles — especially helpful for those preparing to study or work abroad, or who want to understand a wider range of accents.
Yes. CPILS offers dedicated IELTS courses covering all four test skills — Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking — along with vocabulary, grammar, test strategies and mock exams. Whether you need IELTS for studying abroad, graduate school applications, work or other purposes, you can choose the IELTS course that fits your current level and target score.
The regular IELTS course suits students who want to build an exam foundation, get familiar with the question types, or don't yet meet the entry level for the guarantee course. IELTS Guarantee sets a target score based on your level at entry, together with stricter rules on attendance, self-study, mock tests, and study management. The guarantee course doesn't mean any student can reach a set score regardless of level — you need to meet the school's entry and study requirements.
Your level can be assessed first, but if your English foundation is weak, jumping straight into the intensive IELTS Guarantee course may not be the best fit. IELTS requires foundational reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills. If you're not there yet, start with General English or a more basic IELTS prep course, then move on to full exam training — this is usually more effective than drilling practice tests from the start.
Yes. CPILS offers dedicated TOEIC courses that focus on Listening, Reading, Vocabulary, Grammar, question-type analysis, and test-taking techniques. If you need a TOEIC score for job hunting, promotion, graduation requirements, or as proof of ability for international companies, you can choose an exam-focused course rather than general ESL alone.
Yes. CPILS's TOEFL course trains the four skills — Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing — with content geared more toward academic English and overseas study than everyday English. It suits students applying to universities or graduate schools abroad, or anyone who needs a TOEFL score.
PMC is a course focused on intensive speaking and English expression. It goes beyond everyday conversation into Pronunciation, Presentation, Discussion, and Public Speaking. It suits students who already have a reasonable foundation in English but still get stuck during presentations, public speaking, meetings, or extended conversations in English.
Yes. Business English takes your English into real international workplace situations, covering business communication, presentations, business writing, business vocabulary, telephone English, discussions and cross-cultural communication. It's ideal for working professionals, employees at international companies, international sales staff, overseas job seekers and students who hope to work in a multinational environment in the future.
Yes. Adult students can choose courses to match their needs: General ESL or ESL Plus to rebuild English skills, Business English for workplace English, PMC to strengthen speaking and presentations, and IELTS, TOEIC, or TOEFL for further study or exam goals. So CPILS isn't just for students — many of its courses also cater to adults and career needs.
Yes, for students who want to strengthen their English communication first. Common situations when working overseas include English job interviews, understanding instructions from managers, communicating with coworkers, customer service and on-the-job English. If your foundation is still weak, you can start with General ESL or ESL Plus; if you already have basic English and want to take your workplace communication further, consider PMC or Business English.
Yes. CPILS has on-campus dormitories, so students can attend class, live, eat, and do most daily activities on the same campus without a daily commute. There are different room types and accommodation grades to choose from based on privacy, lifestyle, and budget. For first-timers studying in the Philippines, living on campus also keeps daily life simpler.
CPILS offers single, twin, triple and quad rooms, as well as room types such as the Premium Dormitory. Single rooms suit students who value privacy, good sleep and personal space, while shared rooms lower accommodation costs and offer more chances to connect with students of other nationalities. Actual room types and availability must be confirmed at the time of booking.
Dormitories provide the basic amenities you'll need during your stay, such as air conditioning, furniture, a bathroom and basic living space; the setup may differ between room types and the Premium Dormitory. If you particularly care about a fridge, desk, room size, natural light or other features, we recommend checking the latest dorm photos and room specs before enrolling—especially for long-term stays, when accommodation quality matters even more.
CPILS is a large, campus-style language school in Cebu. Besides classrooms and dormitories, it has a student cafeteria, self-study areas, and fitness and leisure facilities. On weekdays, students can attend classes, eat, study and unwind without leaving campus—convenient for those who want a simple routine and to spend most of their time learning English.
Yes. Students living in the dorm can eat at the on-campus cafeteria, keeping classes and daily life on one campus. The number of meals served per day, meal times and menus vary with the school's current arrangements. If you're vegetarian, have food allergies or other dietary needs, we recommend confirming with the school before you enroll.
CPILS has campus and dormitory management rules, but rules on going out and evenings may differ by course. General ESL and intensive courses such as Premier Sparta and IELTS may have different requirements for evening study, self-study, and going out. As school rules can change, if freedom matters a lot to you, we recommend checking the latest curfew and outing rules for your chosen course before enrolling.
Some general English courses allow short-term study, but IELTS, Business, PMC, and other specialized courses may have a minimum number of weeks. With only 1–2 weeks, it's best to focus on speaking more, experiencing an all-English environment, and building English habits. For steadier progress, we usually recommend 4 weeks or more.
If it's your first time studying in the Philippines, consider 4 weeks to start. For more complete progress in speaking, listening, and overall English, consider 8–12 weeks. If you're preparing for IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, or another specific exam, plan the length around your current level and target score. The right duration ultimately depends on your goals, budget, and how much time you can commit.
There's no single fixed price for 4 weeks at CPILS; the total depends on the course, room type, and the school's prices for the current year. Besides tuition and accommodation, you'll usually need to budget for the registration fee, SSP, visa extension, ACR I-Card, textbooks, utilities, dorm deposit, airport pickup, flights, overseas insurance, and personal expenses. So when comparing CPILS fees, it's best to calculate a full budget as “course + room type + weeks + local fees.”
Besides tuition and accommodation, study abroad in the Philippines usually involves a school registration fee, SSP (Special Study Permit), visa extension fees, ACR I-Card, textbook fees, utilities, a dormitory deposit, and airport pickup. You'll also need to cover your own flights, overseas insurance, phone/internet, and personal living expenses. The visas and documents required vary with the length of your stay, so it's best to get a full quote before you officially enroll.
Yes. CPILS's classrooms, dormitories, dining and living facilities are all on one campus, and its general English courses accept students of all levels, so it's relatively easy to settle in on your first study abroad trip. Courses range from general English to Sparta, IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, PMC and Business English, so if your goals change later on, you'll have plenty of options to move into.
CPILS stands out for its long history, full-scale campus, wide range of courses, and its mix of one-on-one, small-group and group classes. From general English and intensive Sparta to IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, PMC and Business English, you'll find a matching course under one roof—making it a good fit for students who want plenty of course options while keeping their English study load high.
CPILS suits students who want a steady and fairly generous amount of English study every day, value one-on-one lessons, and also want group interaction. Beginners can start with General ESL; those wanting more one-on-one time can choose ESL Plus; for fast progress in a short time, consider Premier Sparta; students with IELTS, TOEIC or TOEFL goals can pick the matching exam course; and working professionals or those preparing to work overseas can look at PMC or Business English.
If your trip is mainly a holiday and you only want a few lessons a day with lots of free time, some of CPILS's intensive courses may not meet your needs. And if you particularly prefer a small boutique campus, resort-style ocean-view accommodation or island life, you may also want to compare language schools on Mactan Island. Choosing a school isn't about which one is best, but which one's course intensity, accommodation and lifestyle best match your needs.
The three schools have different strengths. CPILS suits students who want a large campus, a wide range of courses, one-on-one combined with group classes, and options such as IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, and Business English. CBOA is on Mactan Island in Cebu and suits students who want to balance English study with island living. PINES, in Baguio, draws many students with its intensive English and well-structured Sparta system. When deciding, compare your learning goals, course structure, management style, city environment, accommodation, and budget together.
The simplest approach is to first identify the main problem you want to solve on this trip. To improve your English overall, start with General ESL; for more one-on-one study, choose General ESL Plus; for fast, intensive progress, consider Premier Sparta; to boost speaking, presentations, and public speaking, choose PMC; for international workplace English, consider Business English; and if you already have a clear exam goal, go straight to the matching IELTS, TOEIC, or TOEFL course.
Before enrolling, it's best to confirm your current English level, the skills you most want to improve, how many weeks you plan to study, the study intensity you can handle, your preferred number of one-on-one lessons, room type and overall budget. If you have IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL or overseas work goals, factor them into your course choice too. Tuition, dorm availability, promotions, set start dates, curfew and school rules may change, so always check CPILS's latest information for the year before enrolling.
