ABOUT IU
IU English Academy is located on General Maxilom Avenue in Cebu City, in the heart of downtown Cebu.
Compared with language schools in the suburbs or on Mactan Island, one of IU's strengths is convenience. After class, it's easy to head to restaurants, cafés, shopping malls or other spots in the city — ideal for anyone who wants to balance English study with Cebu city life.
The school follows a semi-Sparta approach: a structured management system that still leaves some flexibility in daily life.
The campus houses classrooms, dormitories, a cafeteria, study spaces, fitness facilities and leisure areas, so students don't need to commute daily between off-campus housing and classes — most of daily life happens on campus.

WHY IU
IU is located in downtown Cebu City, which is convenient for students who want to use their time after class to explore Cebu, eat out, go shopping, or enjoy city amenities.
One-on-one teaching is a hallmark of studying abroad in the Philippines. Depending on the course, IU schedules 4~8 one-on-one or group lessons, so students can spend more time on their own weak spots in English, such as speaking, pronunciation, listening, reading, writing, or grammar.
IU's Buddy Teacher system keeps students informed of their English progress through regular check-ins, attendance records, tests and milestone results — adding transparency for teen students and their parents too.
IU is one of the few language schools in Cebu with a strong focus on an active lifestyle. The campus has gym and sports facilities, and evening electives may include Aerobics, Weightlifting and Billiards, with badminton, basketball or yoga offered during some periods.
Beyond everyday English, IU also offers TOEIC and IELTS courses. IELTS training covers listening, speaking, reading and writing with Mock Tests and test strategies, and there's also an IELTS Guarantee program.
IU runs Kids, Teenagers and Parents Programs. Kids' courses may combine Mathematics, Science, STEAM and Physical Education, and parent-and-child and teen study trips during summer and winter breaks are one of IU's distinctive strengths.
CAMPUS FACILITIES
Items in light gray are not clearly listed in IU's currently published information. Actual facility hours, usage rules and what's available each term are subject to IU's latest announcements.

IU's IELTS course is designed for students with specific IELTS score requirements. IU also uses its own IELTS materials and holds periodic Mock Tests so students understand their current level and what to improve.
Ideal for students preparing for further study overseas, study in English-speaking countries such as Australia / the UK / Canada, overseas work, or anyone with a clear IELTS target score.

IELTS Guarantee suits students who want to prepare for IELTS over a longer period within a more structured system. Beyond regular classes, students must meet requirements for attendance, homework, learning progress and mock tests. Under IU's published policy, the guarantee course requires at least 95% attendance and completion of assigned homework, practice and Mock Tests.
If a student completes the guarantee course in line with all requirements and still doesn't reach the specified result, follow-up classes and retake arrangements are handled according to the school's current Guarantee Policy.
Actual entry requirements, guaranteed scores, the scope of free course extensions, official exam fees and guarantee conditions are subject to IU's official rules at the time of application.
Ideal for students with a clear IELTS target score who can handle intensive classes and attendance rules, and are willing to put in the time for homework and mock tests.

The Beginner Course is for students who aren't yet comfortable using English, or who worry that jumping straight into a general English course would be too much pressure. One-on-one lessons build basic vocabulary, sentence patterns, listening and speaking, and group classes then help students gradually practice real-life expression.
Ideal for English beginners, those who haven't used English in a long time, first-timers living abroad, or anyone who wants to build basic confidence in English communication first.

During some periods, Tuesday and Thursday evenings may also include Speech Training, English Board Games, self-study or other activities. Ideal for kids aged 7–12, parent-and-child study trips during summer or winter break, or families who want a balance of English, activities and interaction with peers.

The Teenagers Course is designed for teens who need to start building more well-rounded English skills and independent study habits. Beyond Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing, group activities and a variety of classes give students more chances to use English.

The Parents Course offers a lighter adult English schedule for parent-and-child study families. Parents don't need to study all day as in an intensive ESL course; they can take their own English lessons while their children are in class, and still keep time to rest, work or be with their kids.
Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing and everyday English, tailored to each student's level.
Ideal for parents on parent-and-child study trips who want their children in a well-rounded English program, and who also want to improve their own English without an overly intensive daily schedule.

Ideal for students who value privacy and need a quiet space to rest and study.
Ideal for students who want to lower their accommodation costs and don't mind sharing a room with another student.
Ideal if you want to keep your study-abroad accommodation costs even lower, or enjoy living with and getting to know other students. Main amenities are much the same as other room types; actual bed types and room layouts depend on availability at the time of your stay.
IU makes progress tracking part of its school system. Alongside daily lessons, students keep track of how they're doing through a Buddy Teacher, attendance records, Monthly Assessments and TOEIC / IELTS Mock Tests.
This kind of system is especially good for students who want to know whether they're really improving, need an exam goal, are studying abroad long-term for the first time, have parents who want to keep track of their progress, or tend to slack off without clear goals. Actual meeting frequency and learning report content depend on IU's current system.
IU welcomes students from Taiwan, Korea, Japan and other countries. Since the nationality mix varies with summer and winter breaks, recruitment markets and start weeks, it's best not to judge the year-round student makeup by any single month.
If the proportion of Taiwanese, Japanese or Korean students at a particular time matters a lot to you, we recommend checking the real-time nationality mix for your intended start week before applying.
IU is especially suited to: first-time study-abroad students in the Philippines, those who enjoy the convenience of central Cebu, students who want plenty of one-on-one English lessons, those looking to boost their speaking, TOEIC candidates, IELTS candidates, those with a clear IELTS target score, fitness and sports lovers, those who don't want to stop exercising while studying abroad, parent-and-child study families, kids aged 7–12, teens aged 13–15, adults on short-term English courses, university students, working professionals, and those preparing their English before a Working Holiday in Australia.
No school is simply good or bad — what matters is whether it fits the way you learn.
If you want a completely free-style school: IU has a curfew, a set curriculum, and some study-management rules. If you'd rather decide each day whether to attend class, with no school rules at all, you may want to consider a language school with more freedom.
Those very concerned about the proportion of Taiwanese students: IU is relatively popular in the Taiwanese market, so certain summer and winter breaks may see more Taiwanese students. If avoiding a Chinese-speaking environment is your top priority, we recommend checking the current nationality mix before applying.
If you want a pure resort-style campus: IU's biggest strengths are its downtown Cebu convenience and sports facilities. But if you're picturing the beaches of Mactan Island, a resort setting, and ocean views every day, IU isn't a typical island-resort school.
※ Actual subjects, daily lesson count, timetable, evening activities, room types and school rules may vary depending on each student's English level and IU's current arrangements. The school's latest announcements prevail.
