ABOUT GLC

Get to Know GLC

A large international language school in downtown Cebu City, with a wide range of courses and a diverse mix of nationalities

GLC (Global Language Cebu) is a large international language school in Mabolo, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines. Formerly known as IDEA English/IDEA Cebu, it began operating in 2011, and its current campus opened in 2022.

What sets GLC apart is “scale” and “choice”: a large student body with a diverse mix of nationalities. Its Power Speaking general English course comes in Lite, Standard, Intensive and Ultra levels depending on the number of one-on-one lessons, plus Ultra Sparta, IELTS, TOEIC, Business English, and Kids, Junior and Family Packages. Some courses use officially licensed e-textbooks, with lessons and review on a tablet or laptop.

Compared with resort-style language schools on Mactan Island, GLC is a city-living campus: located in downtown Cebu City, it offers relatively easy access to SM City Cebu and Ayala Center Cebu for shopping and meals, and after-class life revolves around the city rather than the beach.

Best suited to students who value international interaction, want to live in the city, and need a variety of course options — such as working adults, test-takers, business English learners, or parents traveling with their children. If you prefer a small, quiet campus, or a Sparta environment where the whole school is under closed-campus management, we recommend comparing it with other language schools in Cebu.

WHY GLC

Why Choose GLC?

What sets GLC apart isn't a single selling point but the combination of its student community size, course options, and city life.

Large International Student Community

With a large, diverse student body, you'll easily meet classmates from other countries in the cafeteria, lounge areas, and campus activities after class, giving you more chances to use English outside the classroom.

Choose regular or Sparta courses

Power Speaking comes in Lite, Standard, Intensive, and Ultra based on the number of one-on-one lessons, plus Ultra Sparta; choose a self-directed or highly managed option based on your length of stay and personality.

Officially licensed digital materials

Some courses use officially licensed e-textbooks and digital tools; with a tablet or laptop, taking notes in class and reviewing afterward is easier.

Test Prep, Business & Family Programs

Beyond IELTS, TOEIC, and Business English, there are also Kids (approx. ages 5–11), Junior (approx. ages 12–14), and Family Package, so adult learners and families traveling together can all be accommodated at one school.

City Life in Downtown Cebu City

The campus is in Mabolo, with relatively easy weekend trips to SM City Cebu and Ayala Center Cebu for shopping or meals — a good fit for long-term students who value convenience.

Plenty of Room Types and Budget Options

General English Courses

Power SpeakingStandard ESL | Everyday communication and overall English skills

Power Speaking is GLC's standard General English (ESL) course, with about 4 one-on-one classes plus 2 group classes per day. It builds listening, speaking, reading, and writing together with grammar and pronunciation, with a focus on getting you speaking in full sentences.

One-on-one lessons target your individual weaknesses, while group classes let you practice expressing yourself and responding in a group setting. This course is also the usual foundation if you later move on to IELTS, TOEIC, or Business English.

Standard course structure

  • One-on-one | About 4 per day
  • Group classes | About 2 per day

What You'll Learn

  • Speaking
  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar
  • Pronunciation
  • Quick Response

Who is it for?

Most students who are studying abroad in the Philippines for the first time, have beginner to intermediate English, and don't yet have a specific test goal start with this course. It also suits those who want to build a solid foundation before deciding whether to prepare for an exam.

Light General English

Lite Power SpeakingLight ESL | Fewer lessons, more time for work and life

Same focus as the standard Power Speaking course but with one fewer one-on-one lesson (3 one-on-one and 2 group classes), so your daily workload is lighter and you keep more free time in the afternoons and evenings.

Course Structure

  • One-on-one | 3 lessons
  • Group classes | 2

Who is it for?

People who need daytime hours for remote work, senior learners, and long-stay students who want a slower pace. If you're only studying for a few weeks and want visible progress, the standard or Intensive course is more efficient.

Intensive General English

Intensive Power SpeakingIntensive ESL | One extra one-on-one class to target weak points

One more one-on-one class than standard Power Speaking (about 5 one-on-one plus 2 group classes per day). Group classes stay the same, and the extra time goes to speaking and your individual weak points.

Course Structure

  • One-on-one | About 5 per day
  • Group classes | About 2 per day

Who is it for?

Students on a shorter study trip who want to speak more in limited time, or who already know they're stuck on specific issues like pronunciation, grammar, or speaking fluency.

Ultra-Intensive General English

Ultra Power SpeakingUltra-Intensive ESL | Lots of one-on-one, plus Ultra Sparta

Mostly one-on-one: about 7 one-on-one classes plus 1 group class per day, so your daytime is almost entirely spent in class. Suited to students who put study volume first.

Sample Course Structure

  • One-on-one | About 7 classes
  • Group class | about 1 lesson

Need more structured supervision: Ultra Sparta

Beyond class hours, if you also need external structure to stay disciplined, GLC offers Ultra Sparta (ESL / TOEIC / IELTS), which focuses on higher-intensity classes plus study management such as self-study sessions and vocabulary tests. The 2026 price list notes that Ultra Sparta students must stay in an Annex2 single or twin room.

Who is it for?

Students with a solid English foundation who can handle a heavy class load and want to push their speaking and overall skills in a short time. If it's your first time abroad, you tire easily, or you want to fit in some travel, we recommend starting with the standard or Intensive course.

IELTS Course

IELTSIELTS | Test prep for study, immigration, and work abroad

The biggest difference from general ESL is that the goal is a score: materials, question types, and time allocation all target the four IELTS sections — Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking — with academic vocabulary, test strategies, and mock tests added.

What You'll Learn

  • IELTS Listening
  • IELTS Reading
  • IELTS Writing
  • IELTS Speaking
  • Academic Vocabulary
  • Academic Grammar
  • Test Strategies
  • Mock Test

Course versions

Available by intensity as General, Intensive, Ultra8 and Ultra Sparta IELTS; you can compare the cost of each with the 2026 fee calculator on this page.

Who is it for?

Students who already have a target score or application deadline and are preparing to study, work, or immigrate to Australia, the UK, Canada, or elsewhere. Both Academic and General Training are covered. If your English is still at a beginner level, we usually recommend building a foundation with ESL before switching to IELTS.

TOEIC Course

TOEICTOEIC | Test prep for job hunting, promotions, and graduation requirements

Targets the TOEIC Listening and Reading question types, training workplace vocabulary, grammar, and test-taking pace, with mock tests to track your score. Compared with general ESL, the focus is on getting the score you need rather than all-round speaking practice.

What You'll Learn

  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar
  • Test Strategies
  • Mock Test

Course versions

Courses are divided by intensity into General, Intensive, Ultra8, and Ultra Sparta TOEIC; compare the fees for each version in the 2026 fee calculator on this page.

Who is it for?

Students who need a TOEIC score for job hunting, promotion, or graduation requirements and have a clear target score. If what you really want to improve is speaking, Power Speaking or Business English will be a better fit.

Business English

Business EnglishBusiness English | Meetings, presentations, negotiations & workplace writing

Puts English into work contexts: practice speaking up in meetings, presentations, negotiations, business writing, and interviews. Unlike general ESL, the scenarios and vocabulary are all workplace-focused. The 2026 price list states it's for ages 18 and over.

Learning focus

  • Business Communication
  • Meeting
  • Presentation
  • Negotiation
  • Business Writing
  • Workplace Vocabulary
  • Listening
  • Speaking

Who is it for?

Working professionals with basic communication skills who need English for meetings or emails at work, and those preparing for English interviews, overseas job hunting, or a Working Holiday in Australia. Students still at a beginner level should build a foundation with Power Speaking first.

English for Kids & Teens

Kids & Junior EnglishKids & Teens | Age-appropriate English courses

Kids and Junior courses are designed by age and centered on one-on-one lessons, combined with reading, speaking, vocabulary, games, songs, and themed activities. The goal is to get children comfortable expressing themselves in English and build their confidence, rather than focusing on grammar and exams as adult ESL does. Options are 6, 7, or 8 classes per day.

Eligible ages

  • Kids | Approx. ages 5–11
  • Junior | approx. ages 12–14

What You'll Learn

  • Speaking
  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar
  • Games
  • Songs
  • Theme Activities

Who is it for?

Families who want their children to practice intensively in an English environment during winter or summer break. For children going abroad for the first time, a plan with fewer lessons is a good place to start.

Parent-Child / Family Study Abroad

Family PackageFamily Study Abroad | Parents and children each take the classes that suit them

Parents and children come to Cebu together but don't have to take the same classes: children join Kids or Junior by age, while parents and older family members take adult courses based on their English level and goals.

Age guide

  • Ages 5–11 | Kids English
  • Ages 12–14 | Junior English
  • Older students & adults | Courses matched to age and English level

Family Package

  • Family of 2
  • Family of 3
  • Family of 4

Who is it for?

Families who want to travel together during winter or summer break, with parents who'd also like to brush up on their English. Family programs aren't included in this page's estimator and require a separate quote; peak-season accommodation and popular room types fill up quickly, so ask early.

The number of classes, subjects, and teacher assignments for the courses above are arranged according to each student's level and GLC's timetable at the time of enrollment. Exam courses such as IELTS and TOEIC may have set start dates and minimum English level requirements; the school's rules at the time of application apply.

Yes, it's convenient. GLC is in downtown Cebu City: you can buy a SIM card, daily essentials, and pharmacy and beauty items at SM City Cebu, and head to Ayala Center Cebu for weekend meals or coffee. If you're after an island-resort vibe, note that a city campus won't put you right by the beach after class.

Who is GLC best for?+

GLC suits students who value international exchange, want to live in downtown Cebu City, and need a wide range of courses — including first-timers studying in the Philippines, IELTS/TOEIC candidates, Business English learners, and families. 2. Courses & Learning

It depends on the course. Standard Power Speaking has about 4 one-on-one classes plus 2 group classes per day; Lite has 3 one-on-one plus 2 group classes; Intensive is about 5 plus 2; Ultra is about 7 one-on-one classes plus 1 group class. Evenings are for self-study or free time.

Yes. GLC's regular courses are self-directed, and it also offers Ultra Sparta (ESL, TOEIC, IELTS), which focuses on higher-intensity classes plus study management such as self-study sessions and vocabulary tests; the 2026 price list notes that it requires staying in an Annex2 single or twin room. Sparta is a course option within a large campus — the school as a whole is not run under closed-campus management.

Does GLC use digital materials?+

Yes. Some GLC courses use officially licensed digital materials and e-learning tools, so we recommend bringing a tablet or laptop for class and review. The actual material format depends on the course you choose.

Does GLC offer laundry service?+

5. Costs & Pre-Departure Preparation
