Finland Investigates Forest Clearing for Google Data Centre

Police in Finland have opened a criminal investigation into land clearing at a planned Google data centre site. The case focuses on Muhos, a town in the north of the country. Investigators want to know whether Tuike Finland, a Finnish subsidiary of Google, broke the country's water law and harmed the environment.

According to reports, the company cut down trees and drained land near the site before the required environmental impact assessments were finished. On October 6, Finland's environmental regulator ordered the company to stop preparatory work at Muhos and at a second site. Police expect to give an update in December, and the investigation may continue into 2027. If the company is found guilty, it could face a corporate fine.

cooperate with 後面接「人或單位」；cooperate on 後面接「事情」。

11. go ahead（v. phr.）（計畫）照常進行、付諸實行

go ahead 也常用在口語裡表示「請便、你先說」，例如 Go ahead, I'm listening.

如果所有已同意的電網連接案都付諸實行

例句：The outdoor concert will go ahead even if it rains.
就算下雨，戶外演唱會也會照常舉行。

這幾組字意思接近，差別在拼法、正式程度和使用場合。

句型 1：want to know whether + 主詞 + 動詞（想知道是否……）

原句：Investigators want to know whether Tuike Finland broke the country's water law.

重點：whether 引導名詞子句，意思是「是否……」，常放在 know、ask、decide、check 後面。口語中常用 if 代替，但後面接 or not、或放在句首時，用 whether 較自然。

套用：I want to know whether this course includes speaking practice.
我想知道這門課有沒有包含口說練習。

句型 2：If + 主詞 + is found + 形容詞, 主詞 + could face + 名詞

原句：If the company is found guilty, it could face a corporate fine.

重點：be found + 形容詞＝「被認定為……」；could face＝「可能面臨……」，語氣保守，是新聞報導尚未定案的事情時常見的說法。

套用：If the visa application is found incomplete, it could face a long delay.
如果簽證申請被認定資料不全，可能會延遲很久。

句型 3：A comes only weeks after B（A 發生在 B 之後沒多久）

原句：The case comes only weeks after Google announced a US$15 billion investment.

重點：用來帶出兩件事的對比或關聯，常見於新聞第二段或結尾。weeks 可以換成 days、months。

套用：The price increase comes only days after the company reported record profits.
這次漲價就發生在公司公布創紀錄獲利的幾天之後。
